Xpeng revealed first official images of new G7 SUV

Xpeng has released official photos of a new mid-size SUV called the G7. This model should sit between G6 and G9 in XPeng’s range and will compete with the Zeekr 7X and Tesla Model Y. Sales will likely begin in the first half of 2025

Xpeng has previewed its new mid-size Sport utility vehicle model: the G7. The new car has the same design language as the Xpeng P7+ saloon and should sit between the G6, which measures 4753, 1920, 1650 mm (l/w/h), and the G9, which measures 4891, 1937, 1670 mm (l/w/h) in XPeng’s line-up. Xpeng officially launched the G6 in China on June 29, 2023, with deliveries starting a few days later. The current starting price of the model in China is 199,900 yuan. Aside from the G6, Xpeng also has a flagship SUV on sale, the G9, which currently starts at 263,900 yuan.

The G7 will be based on the same 800-volt platform as the P7+ and share similar drivetrain options, suggesting rear-drive-only drivetrains offering 180 kW or 230 kW of power with both boasting 450 Nm of torque. Battery sizes too should match the P7+, with 60.7 kWh and 76.3 kWh LFP options available, offering around 615 km (382 miles) to 725 km (450 miles) of range on the CLTC cycle. Prices for the new G7 may start at around 200,000 yuan ($ 27,300). Xpeng has had considerable success with its strategy with the Mona M03 and P7 plus, which both have high configurations and relatively low prices.

The Xpeng G7 is expected to be the most direct competitor to the Model Y. Sales will likely begin in the first half of 2025. The Tesla model is currently offered in three variants in China, with starting prices of 249,900 yuan, 290,900 yuan, and 354,900 yuan respectively. The G7 will compete too with Zeekr 7X, undercutting the base 7X by around 30,000 yuan. The G7's other potential rival is the L60 from Nio's sub-brand Onvo, which is also targeting the Model Y. The L60 starts at 206,900 yuan, including the battery pack.
