The first model under the revived Freelander brand by the Chery Jaguar Land Rover joint venture , was revealed in filings from the China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Progettato per il mercato cinese , arriverà sul mercato nei prossimi mesi. Prodotto in joint venture con il colosso asiatico Chery, potrebbe sia pure in futuro essere disponibile anche altrove  È ancora presto per immaginare che forma prenderà la nuova Freelander, destinata a diventare un marchio a se stante di Land Rover. Ci penseranno gli studi di design di Chery e di JLR che sono già al lavoro per definirne l'identità . Se il brand britannico ritiene che debba somigliare a quello originale, sarebbe giusto che adesso lo stile dei modelli oggi esistenti, ma potrebbe essere diverso se si adotterà una scelta già fatta da altri marchi occidentali.  La produzione della nuova Freelander sarà gestita dallo stabilimento Chery Jaguar Land Rover di Changshu che attualmente produce la Land Rover Discovery Sport e la Range Rover Evoque e che però cesserà alla fine di quest'anno.
