The Capri is back, but this time as an electric-only sporty crossover, not as a coupe like the iconic model produced by Ford from 1969 to 1986. It shares the platform and powertrains with the Explorer, though it features design cues reminiscent of the classic Capri, such as the LED light clusters that echo the original's dual front lights and horizontal two-level rear lights, and vintage body colors like yellow and blue. The new Capri measures 4.63 meters in length (+16 cm compared to the Explorer), 1.87 meters in width, and 1.63 meters in height (-4 mm compared to the Explorer), with a wheelbase of 2.77 meters. The luggage compartment has a load capacity of 572 liters with five seats, compared to the Explorer’s 530 liters.
At launch, the new Capri is available with two powertrains: the RWD Extended Range with a single motor, rear-wheel drive, a 77 kWh usable battery, and 286 hp, and the AWD Extended Range with dual motors, a 79 kWh usable battery, all-wheel drive, and 340 hp. In January 2025, a RWD Standard Range version with a 52 kWh usable battery and 170 hp will be added. Both versions support AC charging at 11 kW, while DC charging is up to 135 kW for the RWD Extended Range and up to 185 kW for the AWD Extended Range. The top speed is 180 km/h for both versions, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds for the RWD Extended Range and 5.3 seconds for the AWD Extended Range, with claimed ranges of 627 km and 592 km, respectively. Unladen weight is 2,098 kg for the RWD version and 2,174 kg for the AWD. DC fast charging from 10% to 80% battery capacity takes 26 minutes for the RWD and 28 minutes for the AWD.
