ONVO, NIO’s sub-brand, has launched the Starlight styling package, which pairs Xinghan Blue paint with 21-inch multi-spoke wheels for the the large 5-seat EV SUV. The package is priced at 16,800 yuan ($2,502), with a limited-time promotional price of 10,080 yuan ($1,502). The new styling package follows NIO’s recent strategy of using limited-edition designs and personalized configurations to maintain product visibility

NIO’s sub-brand Onvo has launched a Starlight styling package for the L80, seeking to attract buyers to the large 5-seat EV SUV with an exterior refresh. ONVO announced on Friday that the package was available for purchase, with the promotional price of of 10,080 yuan ($1,502) applying to orders placed on or before September 30. The package includes new Xinghan Blue paint and exclusive 21-inch multi-spoke Xuanhui wheels. ONVO said the color draws inspiration from reflections of the starry sky on Chaka Salt Lake in Qinghai province, while the wheel design evokes star trails.

The Xinghan Blue paint features a deep blue tone paired with metallic paint, giving the SUV a more sporty and premium appearance. The new styling package follows NIO’s recent strategy of using limited-edition designs and personalized configurations to maintain product visibility. Unlike the L90 limited edition, which bundled exclusive exterior features with higher-end trims, the L80 offers the new color and wheel design as optional upgrades, lowering the barrier for customers seeking a more personalized look.

For ONVO, which is still expanding its product lineup, frequent configuration updates provide a way to generate market attention without significantly increasing development costs, helping its models remain visible in a highly competitive market. The update focuses on exterior styling, with ONVO making no mention of powertrain or battery upgrades.

The brand continues to emphasize family travel in its marketing, highlighting the L80's front and rear storage space and capacity for outdoor gear. The L80 was launched on May 15, with deliveries beginning the following day.

Positioned as a large 5-seat electric SUV for families, it shares its platform and dimensions with the 3-row L90. At launch, the model had a starting price of 242,800 yuan including an 85 kWh battery pack. Under the BaaS (battery as a service) battery rental option, the starting price fell to 156,800 yuan, with a monthly battery rental fee of 899 yuan.

ONVO disclosed in May that more than 90% of the L80's initial buyers chose BaaS, while 62% opted for the Max+ variant equipped with LiDAR and the Shenji NX9031 driver-assistance chip. Overall, ONVO’s sales volume remains in the ramp-up phase. NIO founder, chairman and CEO William Li recently addressed concerns over ONVO’s relatively modest order growth.

Li said ONVO faces far fiercer competition than NIO and firefly. Despite the intense price war, ONVO has maintained an average transaction price of around 240K yuan ($35,756). The brand will next focus on cross-industry partnerships and offline events to expand consumer reach and improve conversion. The 200K–300K yuan ($29,796–$44,694) new-energy SUV segment, where the L80 competes, has become one of the most crowded markets in China’s auto industry. Consumers in this price range now have a wide range of choices.

Facing rising competition, William Li said NIO would accelerate the rollout of “Sky” stores integrating NIO, ONVO and firefly brands, using broader channel coverage to reach more customers in China’s lower-tier cities. ONVO will continue launching new models while maintaining its brand positioning, Li added, ruling out aggressive moves into lower-priced segments.
