Nio Firefly EV achieved a 5-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP crash test

The Nio Firefly EV achieved a five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP (European New Car Assessment Program) crash test. The five-door hatchback achieved a 96 percent safety compliance rating for occupant protection in the latest 2025 Euro NCAP test -- the highest among all models evaluated.  For child safety , the Firefly EV scored 87 percent . It also earned 82 percent for pedestrian protection and 86 percent for safety assist systems, demonstrating exceptionally high overall safety performance.  In late July , the Firefly EV achieved all G or higher G+ ratings across four categories in China's latest C-IASI (China Insurance Automotive Safety Index) evaluation, becoming the safest compact car in the assessment.  The Firefly received the highest “G+” (Good+) rating for Occupant Safety Index, Pedestrian Safety Index (Outside the Vehicle), and Vehicle Auxiliary Safety Index. Former Lamborghini design chief Fabian Schmölz joins Xiaomi Auto, according to Chinese media

Fabian Schmölz, formerly the Chief Exterior Designer at Lamborghini, has joined Xiaomi Auto, according to Chinese media Sanyan Tech. Schmölz is set to assume the role of Head of Exterior Design for Xiaomi Auto Europe .  During Fabian Schmölz’s tenure at Lamborghini, he was instrumental in the design of the T emerario model. Prior to that, while at Porsche , his contributions included design work on the 718 Boxster, the VisionGT concept car, and the Mission E prototype , which later evolved into the Taycan.  The news comes as Xiaomi Auto’s inaugural models, the SU7 and YU7 , have garnered considerable market attention. The Firefly EV hatchback from Nio will start deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands in 10 days. Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania will follow shortly after Nio premium small electric vehicle (EV) brand Firefly will begin its first deliveries in Europe in 10 days, with overseas markets expected to start contributing meaningful sales to the company. On August 14, Firefly will begin deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands, Nio announced today. The Chinese EV maker mentioned the plan while sharing details about the 10th anniversary of its global design center in Munich . China Car Custom, a Chinese startup backed by smartphone giant Xiaomi, has officially rolled out its first model: a small two-doors sports car with dual electric motors and combined power of 320 kW (429 Cv). It has a curb weight of 1,365 kg and can speed up to 100 km/h in 2.9 seconds. The JMEV 01 became available for purchase in China in a single trim level. Nio’s third brand has launched in China its first electric hatchback which shares the company’s name with a price range between 119,800 – 125,800 yuan ($16,770 – 17,600). Deliveries will begin on April 29. The Firefly will also enter Europe  Firefly is the third brand under Nio . Its first vehicle, the Firefly EV hatchback , was launched in China on April 19. Firefly's first model, which shares the brand's name, started presales on Nio Day 2024 last December . The initial presales price of this model was 148,800 yuan ($20,830). On April 19, Firefly’s price was sliced by 19.5% as it officially started sales in China with a price range between 119,800 – 125,800 yuan ($16,770 – 17,600). The Chinese EV maker announced the official launch of the updated seven-seat X9 at an event in Hong Kong. Prices start at 359,800 yuan ($49,190), the same as its predecessor. Nio has reached its 100,000th car delivered in Shanghai

BYD's first ultrafast charging stations with charging power of up to 1,000 kW, or 1 MW, will be ready for use in China next month , to prepare for the launch of the Han L sedan and the Tang L SUV BYD unveiled its first ultrafast charging stations with charging power of up to 1,000 kW, or 1 MW, on March 17, saying it can charge 400 km in 5 minutes and add 2 kilometers of range to an EV in one second. The official name of the charger is “Megawatt Flash Charger” and it is the world’s first EV charger that can handle 1,000 V and 1,000 A. It also doubles Tesla’s latest V4 Cabinet Supercharger, which has a maximum output of 500 kW. BYD plans to build 4,000 1MW charging stations but didn’t previously provide a timeline.
