The compact EV adds purchase and rental options, allowing existing owners to upgrade through swapping rather than replace their car  Firefly, the small electric vehicle brand under NIO , has launched a 60-kWh CATL battery pack, offering new and existing owners a longer-range option that extends the reach of the compact city car. Firefly said on Friday that owners who bought the vehicle outright can permanently upgrade from the standard 42-kWh battery to the 60-kWh pack for a price difference of 17,000 yuan ($2,530).  The new battery raises the CLTC range to 560 km from 420 km, an increase of 140 km, or about 33% . The model was previously available only with the 42-kWh battery. The update adds a battery capacity option to the same model. The compact EV will gain a higher-capacity CATL pack on October 23 , improving long-distance usability for both new buyers and existing owners   NIO will launch a 60-kWh battery pack for its small electric vehicle brand Firefly on October 23, offering new and existing owners a larger-capacity battery option. Pu Yang, Firefly's head of brand marketing, disclosed the plan at a user gathering in Zhengzhou, Henan province, on Friday.  The 60-kWh pack is a long-life battery from CATL that will give Firefly a range of 560 kilometers, Pu said. The pack will be available to both new and existing Firefly owners , with details to be announced at the October 23 launch event, Pu added.
