Xpeng officially launches 2025 X9 MPV: sales in Europe start in the second half of this year

The Chinese EV maker announced the official launch of the updated seven-seat X9 at an event in Hong Kong. Prices start at 359,800 yuan ($49,190), the same as its predecessor. Xpeng will launch the X9 MPV in Europe in the second half of this year, the company's chairman and Ceo He Xiaopeng said at launch 

Xpeng officially launched its heavily revised 2025 X9 electric MPV. The Chinese EV maker announced the official launch of the seven-seat X9 at an event in Hong Kong, marking the first time it has held a product launch event outside of the Chinese mainland. The 2025 X9 features a lot of interior refinements. An additional 3.2 square meters of soft-touch materials have been added, bringing the total coverage to 26.6 square meters. Details like buttons and trim pieces now feature a more premium PVD vacuum coating finish. 

A standout upgrade is integrating NASA-inspired technology into the Zero-Gravity seats, now standard for the first and second rows. Xpeng claims these seats reduce hip pressure by 22%, hip joint force by 36%, lumbar force by 60%, and spinal pressure by 13% when activated. A 10-point massage function is standard, with an optional 16-point system available. Accessibility and third-row usability, often compromised in MPVs, have been addressed. The 2025 X9 integrates the central aisle with the second-row Zero-Gravity seat design, facilitating easier access to the rear. 

The cabin boasts 7.7 square meters of usable space, a 1360mm interior height, and a 165mm wide aisle, allowing children under 10 to move freely. The third row receives significant upgrades, including infinitely adjustable electric backrest and headrest controls, and the ability to fold completely flat, offering space Xpeng compared to a Mercedes-Benz GLE’s second row. Soft-close doors are now standard for the first row. The prominent 21.4-inch rear entertainment screen receives TÜV Rheinland anti-blue light certification and features a 0-75 degree stepless tilt function. New additions include a 220V power outlet, a microphone-less karaoke system, a 10.8-liter combination refrigerator/warmer, surround-style central air conditioning, and one-touch electric folding for the third-row seats. 

The 2025 X9 continues to feature active rear-wheel steering, contributing to a class-leading turning radius of just 5.4 meters, enhancing maneuverability. Xpeng utilized large AI models to simulate and optimize chassis comfort, implementing a “6D comfortable anti-motion sickness algorithm” to minimize body roll during cornering and pitching over bumps. Investment has also gone into noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) reduction. Xpeng states 50 million yuan ($69,000) was invested explicitly in 58 NVH improvements for the 2025 model, aiming for “million-yuan level quietness,” adding to the company’s cumulative NVH investment exceeding 500 million yuan ($690,000). The updated X9 measures 5,293 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width and 1,785 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 3,160 mm, the same as its predecessor. 

Built on the standard 800V high-voltage platform, the X9 offers buyers a choice between a 105 kWh NMC lithium-ion battery or a 94.8 kWh LFP battery pack. The least expensive variant is powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 94.8 kWh and a CLTC range of 650 kilometers. The variant supports 5C charging multiplier and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as fast as 11.7 minutes. The other three variants are powered by a battery pack with a capacity of 105 kWh and offer a CLTC range of 702 to 740 kilometers. The pack supports 3C charge multiplier and can charge from 10 percent to 80 percent in as fast as 20 minutes. The two least expensive variants of the 2025 X9 are single-motor front-wheel drive models with a peak motor power of 235 kW and peak torque of 450 Nm. The two more expensive variants additionally have a rear motor with a peak power of 135 kW and peak torque of 190 Nm. The 2025 X9 starts at 359,800 yuan ($49,190) in the Chinese mainland, the same as its predecessor.

The launch of the upgraded X9 underscores Xpeng’s strategy to establish strong contenders in key market segments. Xpeng notes that the Chinese MPV market is shifting towards premium, family-oriented, and electrified models. While traditional ICE models like the Buick GL8 and Toyota Sienna/Granvia remain popular, and competitors like the Denza D9, ZEEKR 009, and BYD Xia are gaining traction in the NEV space, the pure-electric MPV segment remains relatively less crowded. Xpeng believes the X9’s focus on intelligence and electric power provides a first-mover advantage, predicting that smart EVs will disrupt the traditional MPV market by shifting focus from simple “feature stacking” to “scenario innovation,” opening new pathways for premium Chinese brands.
