Nio Firefly will begin its first deliveries in Europe on August 14

The Firefly EV hatchback from Nio will start deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands in 10 days. Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania will follow shortly after

Nio premium small electric vehicle (EV) brand Firefly will begin its first deliveries in Europe in 10 days, with overseas markets expected to start contributing meaningful sales to the company. On August 14, Firefly will begin deliveries in Norway and the Netherlands, Nio announced today. The Chinese EV maker mentioned the plan while sharing details about the 10th anniversary of its global design center in Munich. Austria, Belgium, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, and Romania will follow shortly after.

The Firefly EV is a small car aimed at urban mobility with a 42.1 kWh battery and a 141 hp e-motor. Over the past decade, Nio has entered five markets -- Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Denmark -- to build a user experience encompassing products, services, user operations, and energy infrastructure, it said. In June, Nio announced that it would enter 11 new European markets in the next two years through a national distributor model, the company said. The Firefly EV was launched in China on April 19, 2025, with a price range of 119,800 – 125,800 yuan ($16,610 – 17,440). On June 24, Firefly launched the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) plan for this model, slicing the car’s starting price by 30% to 79,800 yuan ($11,065).

On July 26, Firefly officials shared that the brand’s first models hit the 10,000-unit delivery milestone. Nio sold 7,843 Firefly EVs from April to June. It means the automaker sold over 2,000 units of this funky hatchback in July domestically. To further enhance the Firefly EV sales volume, Nio plans to launch it overseas. Norway and the Netherlands will become its first two markets outside China. Firefly officials previously shared that the Firefly EV will be available in Norway for 279,900 NOK. It is around $27,280 or 23,570 EUR. So, this model will be 64.2% more expensive than in China. There is no information about the availability of the BaaS purchase program for the Firefly EV in Norway and the Netherlands.

Firefly is positioned by Nio as a premium compact car, with its most direct competitors including the BMW Mini and Mercedes-Benz Smart. The Firefly EV is a small hatchback with distinguishing headlights made of three round units. It also has a blackened roof, retractable door handles, and short bumpers. This EV has dimensions of 4003/1781/1557 mm and a wheelbase of 2,615 mm. Aside from being compact, the Firefly boasts decent practicality for its class. It has a 95-liter front trunk. The car’s interior offers 27 storage spaces. The rear trunk has a 335-liter volume. With rear seats folded, the trunk space reaches an impressive 1,253 liters. Moreover, there is an additional 29-liter storage space under the right rear seat. The Firefly EV’s center console has a 13.2-inch floating screen and a 6-inch LCD instrument panel. The car’s gear shifter sits behind the wheel.
Other features of the Nio’s hatchback include 9 airbags, 14 speakers, a fragrance system, and 256-color ambient lighting. The Firefly EV comes standard with a 105 kW (141 hp). This e-motor helps the Nio’s hatchback to speed up to 100 km/h in 8.2 seconds. Thanks to a 42.1 kWh battery, this EV can run up to 420 km on a single charge (CLTC conditions). The Firefly comes standard with 9 airbags across the lineup, including an innovative dual-chamber far-side airbag, which provides comprehensive side-impact protection from the A-pillar to the C-pillar.
