NIO Firefly to Unveil “Spiaggia” Special Edition EV in China
The premium compact EV brand is preparing a coastal-inspired limited-run model, set to be revealed tomorrow. The new version is expected to highlight a Southern Italian beach theme as the company continues using themed editions to keep consumer interest high
Firefly, the premium compact electric vehicle (EV) brand of NIO, will unveil in China its sixth “Spiaggia” special edition tomorrow, embracing Southern Italian beach-inspired blue, white, and orange styling.
Firefly posted a teaser video on Weibo on Thursday featuring themes of the southern Italian coast, summer and the ocean. The official teaser video uses blue, white, and orange across scenes of seawater, sky, and beaches, creating a strong Southern Italian coastal holiday feel. It also used the Italian word "spiaggia," meaning beach, but does not show the vehicle's exterior.

Based on previously leaked spy shots, the model is expected to feature blue bodywork with white wheels. Orange elements may also appear inside, giving the cabin a light, bright color scheme. This model will mark the sixth special edition launched by Firefly.
Since the first “Nomadic Maillard Special Edition” went on sale in August 2025, Firefly has launched five limited editions: “Night Creature” in October 2025, “Pegasus Rhapsody” in January 2026, “Millennium Wave” (Y2K Edition) in March 2026, and “Pixel Player” in June 2026, with production runs ranging from 99 to 666 units. These special editions typically use exclusive paint, wheel, and interior designs to create a distinct look. Some features offered as options on standard models are also made standard. Prices are usually higher.

Frequent special-edition launches help Firefly maintain visibility without adding an entirely new model. The strategy also allows the brand to test consumers' acceptance of different design themes and price premiums. Firefly delivered 5,771 vehicles in July, up 143.9% year-on-year but down 16.9% from June. By comparison, Smart sold 1,841 vehicles in July. Its best-selling single model was the Smart #1, with 894 units sold.
