Xiaomi SkyNomad N90 interior revealed with 2+2+3 layout

Xiaomi unveiled the interior layout of its latest SUV SkyNomad N90. While the current trend among high-end, family-oriented large SUVs heavily favours a 2-2-2 six-seat configuration to prioritise individual passenger comfort, Xiaomi is introducing the SkyNomad N90 with a 2-2-3 seven-seat layout

Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is highlighting the practical versatility of the seven-seat configuration. He noted that it perfectly accommodates a family of three travelling with both sets of grandparents, or a two-child family accompanied by grandparents and a nanny. Furthermore, Lei Jun emphasised that the 2-2-3 layout, famously utilised in vehicles like the Buick GL8, makes the SkyNomad N90 equally adept at business reception, offering greater utility across diverse usage scenarios. 

Positioned as an “intelligent variable large-space SUV,” the SkyNomad N90 is built around the “Living Space” cabin philosophy. The Xiaomi Skynomad N90 is a full-size crossover with dimensions of 5285/1998/1825 mm. The SkyNomad N90 offers both 5-seat and 7-seat versions. The vehicle features a completely flat floor and ultra-long rails running the length of the cabin. Key interior highlights include:

Front seats: Support 180° rotation.

Second row: Equipped with standard zero-gravity comfort seats.

Entertainment: Features a ceiling-mounted screen that can slide forward and backwards, an optional PAD expansion for the third row, and an available projection kit.

Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi Auto, stated that the SU7/YU7 series are “driver’s cars,” while the SkyNomad series is positioned as “intelligent, transformable large-space SUVs,” creating a differentiated strategy from the former. When parked, the SUV can transform into "a studio for one, a café for two, a living room for three, or a playground for the whole family," according to Lei. 

Prior to SkyNomad, Xiaomi EV produced only battery electric vehicle (BEV) models, including the SU7 sedan series and the YU7 SUV series. With the Sky Nomad series, Xiaomi is launching its first vehicles with a range extender (EREV)—and in doing so, is setting a new range record in the crossover  SUV class. 

For its first EREV series, Xiaomi is installing a 76-kWh  battery, which, according to the manufacturer, enables an all-electric range of up to 505 kilometers. This means the Sky Nomad series surpasses the previous class leader, the Leapmotor D19, which previously offered the largest battery in an EREV of this vehicle class. By comparison: Many all-electric cars have similar battery capacities of around 70 to 76 kWh—Xiaomi now achieves this level in addition to a range extender that recharges the battery while driving. 

The range extender used is a 1.5-liter internal combustion engine with a peak efficiency of over 44 percent, which delivers up to 4 kWh of energy per liter of fuel to the electric powertrain. In the Skynomad N70 Max model, this enables the aforementioned 505-kilometer all-electric range according to the Chinese CLTC cycle; combined with a full 68-liter fuel tank, this results in a total range of up to 1,500 kilometers. The Skynomad N90 Max is available as either a six- or seven-seater and also uses the 76-kWh battery. However, due to its larger body in the full-size SUV format, the all-electric range here drops to about 480 to 500 kilometers per charge. Xiaomi plans to offer several variants of the Sky-Nomad series, including not only the N70 and N70 Max but also an N90 Max Camping Edition with a retractable roof tent.The SkyNomad N90 is expected to appear at the 29th Chengdu International Motor Show opening on August 21, marking the lineup's first appearance at a major auto show.
