NIO opens pre-orders for five-seat ES8 EV SUV

The Chinese EV maker has opened pre-orders for the five-seat version of its large ES8 electric SUV, expanding its flagship model family with a more spacious configuration aimed at the premium large five-seat SUV segment

The official launch is scheduled for July 9, and the new five-seat variant will be sold alongside the existing six- and seven-seat ES8 models. Display cars are now available in NIO stores, allowing customers to view the vehicle ahead of launch.

Customers who place pre-orders before order locking begins can convert a 5,000 CNY deposit, approximately $735, into a 10,000 CNY discount, approximately $1,470, on the final purchase price. The dedicated pre-order channel will close once order locking opens.

NIO founder, chairman and CEO William Li said the five-seat ES8 is intended to bring large five-seat SUVs into the all-electric era and strengthen the ES8’s position in the large SUV market.

SPACE, COMFORT AND CARGO CAPACITY

The five-seat ES8 uses the same body shell as the three-row model, measuring 5,280 mm long, 2,010 mm wide and 1,800 mm tall. Its 3,130 mm wheelbase is 120 mm shorter than the three-row version’s 3,250 mm wheelbase, enabling the rear seat track to be positioned further back for improved legroom.

The second row can recline into zero-gravity positions, while the cabin provides 6.2 square meters of total interior space, or an average of 1.24 square meters per occupant.

Cargo capacity is a key focus of the new configuration. With the second row folded flat, maximum loading volume reaches 3,084 liters, supported by 1,334 liters of rear trunk space and a 230-liter front trunk. A foldable partition and hanging organizer are also fitted in the cargo area.

TECHNOLOGY, RANGE AND PERSONALIZATION

The five-seat ES8 is built on a 900-volt high-voltage architecture and uses a dual-motor powertrain with a standard 102 kWh battery. The model delivers a CLTC-rated driving range of 655 kilometers, or 407 miles.

NIO’s in-house Shenji NX9031 chip powers the latest version of its Cedar smart driving assistance system, positioning the five-seat ES8 as both a comfort-oriented and technology-led large electric SUV.

Personalization options include seven sky-inspired exterior colors, with Moonlight Silver joining Midnight Black, Star Mist Gray, Cloud White, Polaris Blue, Dawn Gold and M42 Nebula Red. Five earth-themed interior choices are also available: Yadan Orange, Sappan Red, Ink Mountain Blue, Pamir Brown and Pearl Shell.

The five-seat ES8 comes as the ES8 reaches an important milestone. June 28 marks the eighth anniversary of the ES8's first deliveries, with the model having served more than 210,000 users to date. At yesterdays's event, NIO donated the No. 0001 ES8 to the Beijing Auto Museum for its collection. It was the first ES8 delivered eight years ago.
