ES8 SUV accounted for 65% of Nio’s January deliveries with 17,646 units; nearly 40 times higher than January 2025

The third-generation ES8 EV SUV delivered 17,646 units in January, accounting for 64.92% of Nio Group deliveries and for 84.45% of Nio brand deliveries. January's Nio all-new ES8 SUV deliveries were nearly 40 times higher than the 446 units delivered in January 2025

In January, Nio delivered 27,182 vehicles, down 43.53% month on month but up 96.08% year on year, as demand for its flagship all-new ES8 drove growth in China’s premium intelligent electric vehicle segment.

Year-end typically marks a peak in China's auto sales, while the beginning of the year often sees seasonal weakness. Each January, sharp month-on-month declines in vehicle deliveries and sales have become a widely accepted pattern in the auto industry. The fading impact of year-end sales pushes, gaps created by policy transitions, and the early release of demand due to national subsidies have together driven this seasonal correction.

As a result, year-on-year comparisons provide a more meaningful lens than month-on-month swings when assessing whether the market is truly entering a downturn.

The third-generation ES8 SUV delivered 17,646 units in January, accounting for 64.92% of Nio total January deliveries of 27,182 units. January's ES8 deliveries were nearly 40 times higher than the 446 units delivered in January 2025, though they represented a roughly 21% decrease from the record 22,258 units delivered in December 2025.

The Nio brand delivered 20,894 vehicles in January, a 162.78% year-on-year increase, though down 34.50% from December, with the ES8 contributing 84.45%. The all-new ES8 was the clear delivery pillar. Nio officially launched the third-generation ES8 at Nio Day 2025 on September 20, 2025, with deliveries commencing the following day on September 21.

On October 31st, the 10,000th all-new ES8 was delivered at the Shanghai Nanxiang Delivery Center, setting the fastest record for a pure electric vehicle priced above 400,000 yuan to reach 10,000 deliveries, taking 41 days. Merely 29 days later, on November 29th, the 20,000th all-new ES8 was delivered at the Shenzhen Bantian Delivery Center. The delivery pace continued to accelerate thereafter: surpassing 30,000 units by day 89, breaking 40,000 units by day 100, and exceeding 50,000 units by day 120.

The three-row electric SUV offers six-seat and seven-seat configurations, starting at 406,800 yuan ($58,520) including the battery pack. It ranks among Nio's most expensive models and is one of the priciest offerings from domestic Chinese automakers.

The 60,000th new ES8 was delivered in Guangzhou

On Sunday, Nio delivered its 60,000th third-generation ES8, just two weeks after reaching the 50,000th milestone. The 60,000th new ES8 was delivered in Guangzhou. In December, the all-new ES8 achieved retail sales of 22,258 units, making it China's best-selling large SUV, Nio said on Sunday, reiterating previously reported figures. The model topped large SUV sales charts in six cities including Guangzhou and Shenzhen in December, with one in every five large SUVs sold in Guangdong province being the all-new ES8, it said.

The data clearly indicates the golden age of pure-electric large three-row SUVs has arrived, Nio said. The company said the performance came amid pressure on overall auto retail sales in China, with growth concentrated in higher-end segments rather than across the broader market. Nio positioned the results as evidence of structural shifts toward value-driven purchasing and replacement demand among premium buyers.

Nio has positioned the ES8 in the 400,000 yuan price band, targeting buyers seeking large three-row luxury electric SUVs. At that level, the price point corresponds to approximately 400,000 yuan (c. $57,500) using the provided exchange rate. The company and industry commentary cited demand from replacement buyers transitioning from traditional luxury internal combustion engine brands.

The company attributed ES8 demand to its product definition as a large three-row luxury pure electric SUV, combined with a dedicated electric platform, full-stack intelligent systems, and an integrated energy ecosystem that includes charging, battery swapping, and vehicle upgrades.

Nio has emphasized that sales momentum has not been driven by pricing flexibility but by product positioning and service infrastructure.

Battery swapping remains a core part of Nio’s strategy. The company said cumulative battery swap operations exceeded 99 million, with the 100 million milestone approaching. Nio continues to operate both charging and swap station networks and has framed the system as a differentiator for high-usage and premium customers.

The ES8’s role as the delivery backbone has bolstered Nio’s confidence in launching the higher-positioned ES9.
