Nio Firefly has reached the milestone of 20,000 vehicle deliveries
Nio premium compact car brand Firefly has reached the milestone of 20,000 vehicle deliveries, two months after its 10,000th unit was delivered.
This means the Nio sub-brand has delivered 5,445 vehicles so far this month, poised to set a new record for September deliveries.
Nio officially launched the pure electric Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024, positioning it to compete with Mini and Smart. The brand's namesake first model went on sale on April 19.
Firefly offers two trims, with starting prices including the battery pack at 119,800 yuan ($16,800) and 125,800 yuan ($17,600). Chinese consumers can also purchase the hatchback through a BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan starting at 79,800 yuan ($11,200), with a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan ($42).
Deliveries of the Firefly began on April 29, with 231 units delivered in the final two days of April, according to previously disclosed information from Nio.
Firefly achieved a record 4,346 deliveries in August, an 83.69 percent increase from July. By the end of August, the Nio sub-branded had accumulated 14,555 deliveries.
Since its launch, Firefly has attracted a user base with a strong passion for customization. A quick search on Chinese social media reveals numerous examples of personalized paint jobs and modifications. For a car priced around 100,000 yuan ($14,000), this kind of owner-driven culture is quite rare.
The Firefly stands out with its original and highly recognizable exterior design, featuring a distinctive trio-headlamp setup, a dynamic taillight ring, and fluorescent capsule-style accents that run throughout the vehicle's styling. The floating roof, flush door handles, and bold 18-inch alloy wheels further enhance its elegant yet individualistic appearance.
Inside, the Firefly adopts a minimalist and refined interior design. Seats are available in fabric or leather options, incorporating baby-safe materials and customizable magnetic panel inserts.
The cockpit includes a 6-inch digital instrument cluster and a floating 13.2-inch central touchscreen equipped with a uniquely designed UI for intuitive interaction.
Notably, the central armrest between the front seats has been removed, with the wireless charging pad and cup holders repositioned to allow easy lateral movement between seats—particularly useful for exiting tight parking spaces.
The vehicle measures 4,003 mm in length, 1,781 mm in width, and 1,557 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,615 mm.
Storage is generous, with a 92-liter front trunk and a 335-liter rear cargo area that expands to a flat 1,253 liters when the second-row seats are folded down. The cabin also features 27 storage compartments designed to accommodate various daily travel needs.
On the technology front, the new model comes equipped with its proprietary smart operating system, including the Lumo voice assistant capable of understanding complex commands. A 256-color ambient lighting system, 7.1 Dolby surround sound, and a custom "Forest Morning" scent enhance the in-car environment.
Advanced driver-assistance features include 24 high-performance sensors powered by a 128TOPS computing platform, enabling Firefly NOP (Navigate on Pilot) to cover 99% of highways and urban expressways in China. The model also supports wide-scene automatic parking, addressing common challenges in narrow spaces.
Safety-wise, the Firefly boasts a torsional rigidity of 35,700 Nm/deg and submarine-grade 2000 MPa rear longitudinal beams. All models come standard with nine airbags and 13 active safety features.
Under the hood, the vehicle is powered by a 42.1 kWh battery, delivering a CLTC-rated range of 420 km. It features NIO's self-developed six-in-one electric drive system with an efficiency rating of 90%, consuming just 10.9 kWh per 100 km. With a drag coefficient of 0.278 Cd, rear-mounted electric motor, and independent five-link rear suspension, the Firefly also boasts a tight 4.7-meter turning radius, making it highly maneuverable for urban driving.
