Honda launches the Super-ONE small EV in Japan

With Boost mode (95 Cv), 274 km range, and Google integration, it's a fun city car starting at $21,600. Sales begin on May 22 

Honda is launching a small electric car called the Super-ONE in Japan. Sales begin on May 22, with a price of 3,390,200 yen—roughly $21,600. It’s a city car in size and concept, but Honda clearly aimed to make it more than just a thrifty battery-powered box.

The Super-ONE is based on the N-ONE e, but gets a 40 mm wider track, special fenders, an aerodynamic body kit, and a more stable chassis setup. As key feature of the exterior design, the blister fenders encasing the wide tires emphasize a low and wide stance, expressing a sense of dynamic driving. 

Moreover, the aerodynamic design developed exclusively for this model, inducing front and rear air ducts, combines practical features that support excellent driving performance, with functional beauty. It weighs in at 1,090 kg, and the wide tires and 1,345 mm track are meant to boost cornering confidence. 

The key feature is a BOOST mode. In normal driving, the electric motor delivers 47 kW (about 64 hp-63,9 Cv), but in BOOST mode output jumps to 70 kW—around 95 hp-95 Cv. For a small EV, that’s no longer a boring number. 

Honda also adds a virtual 7-speed transmission with simulated shifts and an artificial engine sound inside the cabin. In addition to enhanced output and sound effects, visual excitement is also created through LED instrument panel line illumination on the front passenger side and a triple-meter display that changes from blue to purple when BOOST Mode is activated. 

Range on the WLTC cycle is 274 km. A regular charge takes about 4.5 hours, while a quick charge needs roughly 30 minutes. Through an external Honda Power Supply Connector adapter, the car can output up to 1,500 W—enough for household appliances on the go. 

Standard equipment includes a 9-inch Honda CONNECT with Google display, a Bose audio system, and the Honda SENSING suite with adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and collision mitigation. 

For the interior, the sports seats designed exclusively for this model feature the asymmetric layout of blue surface material, adding a sense of playfulness, and the horizontal orientation of the instrument panel realizes a clear field of vision which will enable the driver to focus more on driving. 

The Super-ONE isn’t trying to be the cheapest EV. Instead, it sells the idea of a small city car where the driver doesn’t feel they bought mere economy transport.
