The Nio ES9 flagship Ev Suv will commence deliveries in China on June 1, the company’s co-founder and president Qin Lihong revealed at the Nio Spring Festival. Qin described the ES9's positioning as the full suite of ET9 technologies packaged within an exceptionally large Suv body. The ES9 will also become the largest mass-produced Chinese BEV crossover.
The ES9 adopts all the technology from the previously launched ET9. The ET9 is Nio's executive flagship sedan, equipped with its SkyRide chassis system and priced starting at 768,000 yuan ($111,370). Porting ET9's technology to an Suv platform positions the ES9 to compete technically with flagship luxury SUVs like the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and BMW X7.
Qin said that Nio's internal team is debating whether to equip all ES9 variants with the SkyRide chassis system or differentiate configurations to achieve a broader price range. "Without the SkyRide chassis, the price would be more accessible," Qin said, noting this decision will be a core focus for him and his team immediately after the Chinese New Year holiday.
Regarding the launch timeline, the Nio brand will hold a product and technology launch event for its new ES9, around April 10. The Nio ES9 will officially go on sale in late May, when pricing will be announced, with deliveries commencing on June 1. Qin also revealed that undisguised ES9 test vehicles may appear on the road as early as March, with related smart driving assistance testing and promotional filming set to roll out nationwide.

The Nio ES9 is a full-size SUV with dimensions of 5365/2029/1870 mm and a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. For clarity, it is only 17 mm shorter than the Cadillac Escalade. But the ES9 has a 179-mm longer wheelbase. The car’s curb weight reaches 2,915 kg. It is available with 6 and 7 seats.
The ES9 has a dual-motor AWD with a peak power of 520 kW (697 hp). The car’s top speed reaches 220 km/h. Similar to other Nio-branded cars, the ES9 supports the battery-swap technology. This BEV adopts a 102kWh battery pack with CLTC pure electric range options of 580km, 600km, and 620km.
Pricing has not been announced. Market estimates place the ES9 in the 500,000 to 600,000 yuan range (approximately $72,400 to $86,800), with the potential for a lower upfront price if Nio applies its Battery-as-a-Service subscription model. For reference, the third-generation ES8 launched on September 20, 2025, with a starting price of 406,800 yuan (c. $58,900) including the battery.
As Nio prepares for the ES9’s launch, the model represents a test of whether the company can regain momentum in the large premium Suv segment while scaling new technologies and its battery swap network at the flagship level.
