The smartphone giant's electric vehicle (EV) unit, will officially launch the YU7, its highly anticipated first SUV model, on Thursday, June 26: a launch event will begin at 7:00 pm on the same day

Xiaomi EV, the smartphone giant's electric vehicle (EV) unit, will officially launch the YU7, its first EV Sport utility, on Thursday, June 26: a launch event will begin at 7:00 pm on the same day and will also feature the launch of the Xiaomi MIX Flip 2 foldable smartphone and the Xiaomi Pad 7S Pro, which is the second tablet mode equipped with Xiaomi's in-house developed Xring O1 chip. Xiaomi will also introduce a "personal smart device for the next generation" at the event, Lei Jun, the company's founder, chairman, and CEO, said. The Xiaomi YU7, a competitor Tesla’s Model Y, made its official debut on 22 May. The Xiaomi YU7 is the first SUV under the Xiaomi EV brand and follows the launch of the SU7 electric sedan last year. This model marks Xiaomi’s entry into the competitive mid-size electric SUV segment.

The official pricing for the Xiaomi YU7 would only be finalized 1-2 days before its launch, Lei said. The starting price of the YU7 will not be just 20,000 yuan ($2,780) higher than the SU7 electric sedan, and it will not be the 235,900 yuan ($32,760) rumored by some, he said. The YU7 has been well-received since its debut event, even more so than the SU7 sedan when it first debuted, Xiaomi president Lu Weibing said. The YU7 has seen higher pre-order inquiries than the SU7 during the same period, Lu noted, adding that as of May 25, the number of users who paid a deposit to reserve the SUV was about three times that of the SU7 during the same period. The YU7 has a broader audience than the SU7, and Xiaomi was highly confident in this model, he said.

Designed by former BMW designer Tianyuan Li, the YU7 is a five-seat mid-to-large-size SUV with length, width, and height of 4,999 mm, 1,996 mm, and 1,600 mm, respectively, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm. Xiaomi is offering three variants of the YU7 -- Standard, Pro, and Max, similar to the SU7. Both the YU7 Standard and Pro variants come with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack with a capacity of 96.3 kWh and a CLTC range of 835 kilometers and 770 kilometers respectively. The YU7 Max variant comes with a lithium ternary battery pack with a capacity of 101.7 kWh and has a CLTC range of 760 kilometers. The entry-level SUV has a single electric motor with a peak power of 235 kW (315 hp). This motor is powered by a 96.3 kWh LFP battery with up to 835 km of CLTC range. The zero-to-hundred acceleration time is 5.88". The top speed reaches 240 km/h.

The car’s second trim level is the YU7 Pro. It has a dual-motor 4WD with a combined peak power of 365 kW (489 hp). This variant speeds up to 100 km/h in 4.27 seconds. The YU7 Pro adopts the same battery pack as the standard trim level. The range reaches 770 km (CLTC). The top-trim Xiaomi YU7 Max has a peak output of 508 kW (681 hp). The larger ternary NMC battery for 101.7 kWh powers this model. Its range reaches 760 km under CLTC conditions. The Xiaomi YU7 Max has a top speed of 253 km/h. This model speeds up to 100 km/h in 3.23 seconds. Other features of the YU7 Max are dual-chamber air suspension and four-piston Brembo brake calipers.

The YU7 adopts inward-folding electric door handles with ambient lighting and UWB (Ultra Wideband) support for smartphone-based keyless entry and trunk access. Inside, the cabin is fully leather-lined, featuring Nappa leather “zero gravity” seats in front, offering a 123° recline and 10-point massage functions. Rear passengers benefit from 135° electrically adjustable seats and a 6.68-inch touch control screen for climate, music, and navigation functions. The dashboard features a 1.1-meter-wide “HyperVision” comprising three Mini LED screens with 108 PPD retina-level resolution. The system integrates driving data, media, blind-spot imaging, and customizable widgets. The car includes a 4-in-1 domain controller that merges cabin, assisted driving, vehicle control, and communications systems. It is supported by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip (4nm process) for fast boot-up in 1.35 seconds and over-the-air updates in as little as 15 minutes.
