Chinese EV automaker Nio has unveiled the latest official images of the ET9 with a blue exterior. “The tech executive flagship Nio ET9 will be officially launched on December 21, Nio Day 2024,” the company said. Nio Day 2024 will be held this Saturday in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, where the focus will be on the Firefly sub-brand and its first model, as well as the official launch of the ET9. The Nio ET9 was unveiled a year ago at Nio Day 2023, with a pre-sale price of 800,000 yuan ($109,810), Nio's highest priced. Deliveries of the model is set to begin in the first quarter of 2025

The ET9 is packed with a number of the latest technologies and will be the first to carry Nio's own 5 nm process-based Shenji autonomous driving chip. All models based on the current NT 2.0 vehicle platform under Nio's main brand are equipped with four Nvidia Orin chips as standard. The sedan's SkyRide intelligent chassis system is also one of the biggest selling points, and Nio has previously shared videos of the vehicle being able to move up and down significantly, demonstrating the chassis system's capabilities. The Skyride intelligent chassis system incorporates rear-wheel steering and fully active suspension. It can provide 1000 torque adjustments per second and four-wheel independent control to meet the needs of different driving scenarios. On December 9, Nio said the ET9's steer-by-wire (SBW) technology was granted mass-production permit by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), making it the first mass-produced vehicle in China to feature SBW technology.

The car’s dimensions are 5324/2016/1620 mm, and the wheelbase is 3250 mm, making it by far the largest Nio to date. It should also be pointed out that with that height, the car is more like an SUV coupe, not only in looks, than a sedan. The weight is 2700 kg. Nio’s flagship rides on 23-inch Pirelli PZERO EV-specific tires. Along with a frunk the car has rear privacy glass, and double dash daytime running lights. The EV is powered by dual motors, with the front YS198S002 providing 180 kW and the rear TZ198Y001 with 340 kW. The combined output is 520 kW (697 hp), and the top speed is 220 km/h. Nio Power Technology in Hefei developed both motors in-house. ET9, like all Nio cars, supports battery swap, and the pack is provided by CATL. It has 46105 cylindrical battery cells, co-developed with Nio, the company claims.

The Nio ET9 will come with a new 120 kWh battery pack and features the first global 900 V high-voltage architecture in China. The electric sedan supports 5C fast charging, enabling it to add 255 km of CLTC range in 5 minutes. ET9 has a peak charging power of 600 kW so that it can fully take advantage of Nio’s latest 640 kWh charging station. It can also do a battery swap in about 3 minutes. Nio ET9 will compete with Mercedes-Maybach in China.
