NIO reached the milestone of its 10,000th delivery of the ES9, its new flagship electric SUV, on Friday, underscoring the full-size model's strong market demand since launch. NIO announced this milestone through its official channels, saying that the owner of the 10,000th ES9 is Li Ningchuan, founder, chairman, and general manager of EV parts manufacturer Zhejiang EV-Tech, who also owns another Nio vehicle. Li Ningchuan said at the handover ceremony that he has long been inspired by Li's dedication to technological innovation. "I am deeply moved and motivated by Mr. Li Bin's persistence in innovation," Li said. William Li, founder, chairman, and CEO of NIO, personally attended the delivery ceremony.

The ES9 was officially launched on May 27, with deliveries beginning immediately. The 10,000 deliveries milestone set a new delivery-speed record for premium battery-electric models priced in the 500,000 yuan ($73,500) segment. For comparison, the redesigned ES8 took 41 days to reach the 10,000-delivery milestone, while the ES9 achieved the same result in less than one month. The ES9 starts at 498,000 yuan ($73,260) under NIO’s standard vehicle purchase plan, while the starting price falls to 390,000 yuan ($57,370) under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) subscription model.
The vehicle’s debut was well received by investors. NIO’s U.S.-listed shares surged 9.32% on the launch day despite broader market weakness, while its Hong Kong-listed shares gained more than 7%, reflecting strong expectations for the new model. Earlier third-party data showed that within the first 72 hours after launch, the flagship Executive Signature Edition accounted for 75% of orders, while more than 95% of buyers opted for the BaaS purchase plan.

The milestone also reinforces analysts' optimism over NIO's earnings outlook. Deutsche Bank predicted that, thanks to strong deliveries of high-margin SUV models, NIO will continue to post non-GAAP profitability in the second quarter. The bank estimated Nio's second-quarter non-GAAP net profit will reach about 180 million yuan, and has raised its full-year 2026 delivery forecast for the ES9 to 56,000 units.

Meanwhile, NIO's other mainstay model, the ES8, has maintained its sales momentum. The third-generation ES8 completed its 120,000th delivery in Shanghai on June 22. Unlike some previous product launches that resulted in internal model cannibalization, the ES9 has not significantly affected demand for the ES8. The two SUVs occupy distinct market positions. The ES8 targets the 400,000 yuan ($58,904)-class premium SUV segment. Meanwhile, the ES9 is aimed at buyers in the luxury full-size SUV market priced above 500,000 yuan ($73,500). Together, they form NIO’s premium SUV lineup. NIO founder, chairman and CEO William Li previously said the ES9 has become one of the highest gross-margin contributors within the company’s SUV portfolio.
