The electric vehicle unit of Xiaomi, Beijing-based smartphone giant, will showcase YU7 this weekend, making the debut of its first EV Suv at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show, or Auto 2025 Shenzhen, which runs from May 31-June 8. Xiaomi gave the YU7 its debut on May 22, its second model after the SU7 electric sedan, and will go on sale in July. The model is a competitor to Tesla's best-selling Model Y.
The YU7 pre-launch had been widely welcomed by users and is more popular than the SU7 sedan when it was first unveiled, the phone maker's president, Lu Weibing said today. The number of reservation inquiries for the YU7 after the technology launch exceeded the SU7's performance during the same period, Lu said, adding that as of May 25, the number of customers who paid deposits to reserve the SUV was about three times higher than that of the SU7 during the same period. The YU7 has a larger audience than the SU7 and Xiaomi is very confident about the model, he said.
Xiaomi will display the full range of models, including the YU7, at the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show. The auto show will have its press day on May 31 and public days from June 1 to June 8. The annual show, to be held at the Shenzhen World Exhibition & Convention Center in Guangdong, is one of China's biggest auto shows. More than 1,000 models were on display at last year's show, which attracted 860,000 visitors. The first Shenzhen auto show was held in 1991 and was the second international auto show to be held in China after the first Beijing auto show in 1990. The Shenzhen auto show was renamed the Shenzhen-Hong Kong-Macao International Auto Show in 2009, and in 2020 it was renamed the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area International Auto Show.
