BYD’s Denza Z moves closer to launch after MIIT filing
The all-electric two-door sports car enters China’s regulatory pipeline in three variants, combining tri-motor output, high-speed capability and premium performance cues ahead of its expected market debut.
BYD’s premium brand Denza has taken a significant step toward launching the Denza Z, its first fully electric two-door sports car, after the model appeared in the latest vehicle filing from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). The regulatory listing confirms that the car will be offered in three configurations: a hardtop, a soft-top convertible and a performance-focused variant.
All three variants use a tri-motor powertrain comprising one front motor and two rear motors, with peak outputs of 500 kW, 340 kW and 340 kW respectively. Combined peak output reaches 1,180 kW, or 1,582 hp (1.604,35 Cv), placing the Denza Z firmly in the upper tier of the high-performance EV segment.
Top speed is listed at 300 km/h for both the hardtop and convertible versions, while the performance variant is registered with a 300 km/h or 350 km/h maximum speed, reinforcing its track-oriented character.
Depending on version and rear-wing specification, the Denza Z measures between 4,780 mm and 4,870 mm in length. Across the range, width is 1,990 mm, height is either 1,330 mm or 1,350 mm, and wheelbase is fixed at 2,780 mm.
Curb weight ranges from 2,220 kg to 2,290 kg depending on configuration, and all versions are configured as four-seaters.
The hardtop and performance versions feature a carbon-fiber roof as standard, with optional equipment including a rear wing, hood trim panels, coloured brake calipers and semi-hidden door handles.
The convertible adopts a retractable soft top as standard and offers additional personalisation through alternative roof colours and hidden door handles.
Power is supplied by BYD’s Blade Battery, which uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) chemistry and underlines the group’s strategy of pairing high output with in-house battery technology.
With its MIIT filing now complete, the Denza Z appears to be nearing launch. Once it reaches the market, it is expected to target the premium performance space occupied by established nameplates such as the Porsche 911, while also entering a fast-evolving competitive set that includes China’s own Xiaomi SU7 Ultra.
