Maextro S800 December sales in China topped combined Porsche Panamera, BMW 7 Series, Maybach S-Class total

The electric sedan from Huawei and JAC outsold the Porsche Panamera, the BMW 7 Series, and the Maybach S-Class combined in China last month and became the most popular luxury sedan priced above 700,000 yuan ($100,000)

The Maextro S800, a sedan under the brand jointly created by Huawei and Jianghuai Automobile (JAC), topped the sales chart in December with 4,376 units sold (including 234 pure-electric versions). This figure is approximately 4 times the sales of the Mercedes-Maybach S-Class during the same period and also exceeds the combined sales (4,130 units) of the Porsche Panamera (1,593 units), BMW 7 Series (1,429 units), and Mercedes-Maybach S-Class (1,118 units).

It is worth noting that other Chinese high-end sedans were far from first place in terms of domestic sales. The Yangwang U7 from BYD delivered 333 units in December 2025. And Nio sold 185 units of the ET9 flagship model.

The Maextro S800 showed clear dominance in the high-end segment, thanks to Huawei’s wide car sales network called HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance). Maextro is a joint brand between the state-owned ex-Nio manufacturer JAC and Huawei. Their first model is the S800 new energy high-end sedan. It entered the Chinese market on May 30, 2025. Deliveries of the Maextro S800 kicked off in August. JAC is responsible for the manufacturing of this vehicle, and Huawei takes care of its sales through the HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) network.

Maextro S800 is a large sedan jointly developed by JAC and Huawei. Its dimensions are 5480/2000/1536 mm with a wheelbase of 3,370 mm. The manufacturer reports a drag coefficient of 0.206 Cd.  Its front end has distinguishing headlights with two horizontally aligned elements. This sedan boasts rear-wheel steering.

Six colour options are offered, including four dual-tone finishes such as Dawn Gold/Black and Wildland Brown/Gold. The vehicle also comes with three optional wheel designs: “Sunshine,” “Moonlight,” and “Starlight.”

The S800’s cabin adopts a 15.6-inch touchscreen complemented by an even larger 16-inch front passenger monitor. The rear passenger windows of the Maextro S800 could be dimmed with a swipe of a hand. Another highlight is a 43-speaker sound system for 2,930 W, and noise levels in the cabin reach 56.7 dB at 60 km/h on rough road surfaces. The vehicle also incorporates active noise cancellation (RNC), laminated acoustic glass, and over 40 kilograms of sound insulation materials.

The Maextro S800 is available in both five-seat and four-seat configurations. Interior craftsmanship emphasises bespoke luxury. The cabin includes hand-polished crystal elements, metal components forged with 1mm casting precision at 1300°C, and full-grain semi-aniline leather with fine stitching. Wood trim undergoes rigorous grain-matching, a rejection rate of over 99%, and a 480-hour gloss process.

Rear passengers benefit from zero-gravity seats with 20-way electric adjustment, up to 148.5° recline, and multi-point massage, ventilation, and heating functions. A unique “giant soft screen partition” between front and rear seats enhances privacy, combined with a central rotary wing panel. The “Executive Island” centre console includes dual foldable aviation trays, a dual-zone temperature-controlled refrigerator with UV sterilisation, a fingerprint-secured safe, dual cup holders with heating/cooling, and extensive storage space.

Climate control is zoned for four separate temperature areas, each independently adjustable with automatic adaptation to outside conditions. Lighting is handled by an independent rear passenger system that supports intelligent tracking light and gesture dimming. The panoramic starry sky roof offers three dynamic modes, including meteor shower effects. Additionally, the car features intelligent privacy glass with gesture control for opening and closing and a novel gesture-based door-closing function.

The all-electric variant of the Maextro S800 offers a dual-motor setup with 390 kW (523 hp) power and a 95 kWh battery. It has a range of 702 km under CLTC conditions. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is listed at 4.3 seconds.

There is also an EREV variant available with two powertrain options: the dual-motor for 390 kW and the tri-motor for 635 kW (852 hp). It also has a 1.5-liter generator for 115 kW (154 hp) and a 65 kWh battery for 365 – 400 km of electric range. The EREV dual-motor version offers a total range of 1,333 km. The tri-motor version provides a combined range of 1,200 km, with a 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 4.7 seconds.

The vehicle weighs approximately 2.6 tons and is equipped with a dual-chamber air suspension system, a front double wishbone suspension, and a rear five-link suspension, as well as multi-mode all-wheel steering. The braking distance from 100 km/h to 0 is listed as 34.5 meters.

This sales dominance is no coincidence. The Maextro S800 has demonstrated remarkable market enthusiasm since its launch on May 30, 2025. Looking at the monthly trend, Maextro S800 sales climbed steadily from just over 1,000 units in August, to nearly 1,900 in September, 1,970 in October, and 2,205 in November, culminating in an explosive surge to over 4,000 units in December.

Order intake has been equally strong. Official data indicates that within 175 days of launch, firm orders for the Maextro S800 exceeded 18,000 units. On December 16, Maextro officials reported that the 10,000th unit of the S800 sedan was handed over to its owner.

A well-known martial artist and actor, Jet Li became the 10,000th owner of the Maextro S800 sedan. JAC chairman Xiang Xingchu and Huawei Automotive Business Unit Richard Yu hosted the anniversary delivery ceremony. By December 23, 2025, its cumulative deliveries had surpassed 10,000 units.

For context, in November 2025, the monthly sales of competing models in the same segment—the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, and Audi A8L (collectively known in the industry as “78S”)—had all already fallen below 1,000 units each. Maextro sales volume grows month-by-month in China. However, this brand is still far from its goal of selling around 8,300 units per month. The price range of the Maextro S800 is 708,000 – 1,018,000 yuan ($101,310 – 145,665).

Maextro will roll out SUV and MPV (multi-purpose vehicle) models this year, each available in both standard and long wheelbase versions. Additionally, Maextro will introduce a higher-spec option of its sole existing model, the S800 sedan. Combined with the current S800 sedan, Maextro will offer a total of six models.

The standard-wheelbase Maextro MPV targets family use, while the long-wheelbase variant focuses on commercial applications. Huawei and JAC's initial plans position both MPV versions at price points significantly higher than typical family and commercial MPVs currently available in China.

Huawei and JAC's initial plan for the Maextro SUV is to target the premium market, though its positioning will be below the S800 sedan. Following luxury market conventions, the long-wheelbase SUV will primarily serve to establish brand image, while the short-wheelbase SUV will target higher sales volumes.
