According to a Tesla sales representative in Beijing, China, the newly launched Model Y L secures daily orders close to 10,000 units, with total orders now exceeding 120,000. Since its debut in China on August 19, the large six-seat all-electric SUV—priced from 339,000 yuan ($47,500)—has quickly emerged as a market sensation and began nationwide deliveries on September 2. According to the sales representative, despite its relatively high price point, the model’s larger cabin and flexible rear-seat configurations have made it particularly appealing to family buyers.
The sales momentum of the Model Y L underscores the potential of large six-seat SUVs in China, but also highlights the urgency for Tesla to identify new growth drivers amid intensifying competition from domestic brands. The entire Model Y lineup now offers three variants in China: the entry-level rear-wheel-drive Model Y, the long-range all-wheel-drive Model Y, and the six-seat Model Y L, with starting prices of 263,500 yuan ($36,890), 313,500 yuan, and 339,000 yuan respectively. Both five-seat versions have estimated delivery times of 1-3 weeks after ordering, per Tesla China's website.
The Model Y L features an 82.0-kWh ternary lithium battery pack from South Korea's LG Energy Solution (LGES), delivering a CLTC range of 751 kilometers -- 1 kilometer longer than the five-seat Model Y long range's 750-kilometer range. The five-seat Model Y rear-wheel drive features a 62.5-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack from CATL (SHE: 300750), delivering a CLTC range of 593 kilometers. The five-seat Model Y long-range all-wheel drive features a 78.4-kWh battery pack from LGES.
The Model Y L measures 4,976 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,668 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,040 mm. By comparison, the five-seat Model Y measures 4,797 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,624 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,890 mm.
