According to local media, Nissan is considering introducing the N7 electric sedan to the Japanese market. Developed under the Dongfeng Nissan joint venture, the N7 is the first all-electric sedan built on Dongfeng Nissan’s new energy platform. While the company has yet to confirm a launch timeline or further details, the potential move signals Nissan’s intent to expand its domestic EV offerings with a model designed initially for the Chinese market. Launching in Japan could broaden Nissan’s appeal to customers seeking a tech-forward EV with upscale features at an accessible price point

The Dongfeng Nissan N7 officially went on sale in China on April 27, with five variants priced between 119,900 and 149,900 yuan (approx. $14,000 – 17,500). On May 15, Dongfeng Nissan’s first new energy vehicle, the N7, surpassed 10,000 orders just 18 days after its launch, becoming the fastest joint-venture pure electric vehicle to reach this milestone in the industry. About 70% of buyers are young first-time purchasers or customers switching from other brands, while 30% are loyal Nissan customers upgrading their vehicles. Customer purchasing patterns reveal that over 71% of users decided to place orders after just one test drive, and more than 60% opted for the fully-equipped Max version with the “Super Comfort Package.” In terms of size, the N7 measures 4,930 mm in length, 1,895 mm in width, and 1,487 mm in height, with a 2,915 mm wheelbase—dimensions that support both family and business use.

Inside, the N7 features a wraparound “Cloud Comfort” cockpit in either light grey or dual-tone forest green/snow white interior. Premium materials such as suede-like microfiber, Alcantara-style fabric, and cloud-patterned soft padding enhance the upscale ambience. The centre console includes a 15.6-inch 2.5K touchscreen and an independent digital instrument cluster.  The front seats of the Nissan N7 support a 12-point massage function. The N7’s trunk offers up to 504 liters of space.

Powertrain options include single-motor variants rated at 160 and 200 kW, each paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. CLTC-rated driving ranges vary by configuration, offering 510 km, 525 km, 540 km, 625 km, or up to 635 km. The N7 also supports a 6.6 kW external power output function and fast charging capabilities—charging from 30% to 80% takes 14 minutes under optimal conditions. Dongfeng Nissan CEO Liu Xinyu reported that Nissan will launch four more new energy vehicles in 12 months after the market debut of the Nissan N7.
