Xiaomi EV, the car-making arm of Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi, shared the first official images of its second EV model, the YU7, as the company applied for its sales license in China. Xiaomi YU7 will be manufactured in the company’s only factory in Beijing, Yizhuang, the homologation fillings to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) revealed. In China, every car must be approved by the local regulator before hitting the market. The MIIT publishes the list of applications that go through the monthly homologation process.
The Xiaomi YU7 measures 4,999 mm in length, 1,996 mm in width and 1,600 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,000 mm and its curb weight is 2,405 kg. The YU7 is a standard SUV in terms of overall styling, but with a sportier look compared to most current SUVs. The model is equipped with dual electric motors, a front 220 kW and a rear 288 kW, providing a total power of 508 kW (681 hp), good for a top speed of 253 km/h. The electricity will be stored in a lithium NMC battery from CATL; the capacity hasn’t been revealed yet.
The YU7 is expected to be officially launched in June or July next year. “We hope the YU7's test vehicles can remove the heavy camouflage as early as possible, which will help us do more comprehensive and detailed long time mass testing to ensure product quality and make a better product” Xiaomi founder, chairman, and CEO Lei Jun said. Xiaomi launched its first EV on March 28 – the Xiaomi SU7. The EV sedan starts at 215,900 yuan ($ 29,700), and in mid-November, deliveries exceeded 100,000 units. Xiaomi’s target is to deliver 130,000 units of SU7 by the end of the year, which is a step up from the initial target of 100,000 units.
