Xpeng X9 EREV: more details unveiled

The Chinese electric vehicle maker announced today that its first extended range model, a 7-seater large-sized MPV, combines a 63.3-kWh battery pack with a 60-liter fuel tank to deliver a 1,602-kilometer range

Xpeng has revealed more details about its extended-range X9 MPV as its debut approaches. The seven-seat MPV serves as Xpeng's global flagship model and its first super extended-range product, the company said. The new X9 EREV is powered by a 1.5T range extender with a maximum output of 110 kW and combines a 63.3-kWh battery pack with a 60-liter fuel tank. Utilising an 800V high-voltage platform and equipped with 5C super-fast charging capabilities, the vehicle offers a pure electric range of 452 km under CLTC conditions, a combined range of 1,602 km and a fuel consumption of 6.4 L/100km.

Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng shared today that the X9 is the only seven-seater vehicle in the industry equipped with a 63.3 kWh battery and a 60L fuel tank combination, achieving a total range of up to 1602 km. X9 EREV incorporates XPeng’s Kunpeng Super Range Extension technology. Xpeng launched the Kunpeng Super Electric System in November 2024, claiming vehicles equipped with it would achieve up to 1,400 kilometers of combined range and 430 kilometers of battery range. The X9 EREV will be the first in Xpeng's lineup of EREV models.

Last month, Mr. He said that the model would officially debut in October. The X9 was launched in China on January 1, 2024, as Xpeng's first MPV model. The EREV variant of the X9 appeared in an August regulatory catalog from China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), revealing dimensions of 5,316 mm in length, 1,988 mm in width, and 1,785 mm in height, with a 3,160 mm wheelbase. It is longer than the all-electric Xpeng X9's 5,293 mm length, with other dimensions remaining identical.

Xpeng also filed for an EREV version of its G7 SUV last month, followed by EREV variants of the G6 SUV and P7+ sedan earlier this month. To date, Xpeng has filed EREV variants for four existing models: X9, G7, G6, and P7+. The X9 EREV will be one of China's hybrid models featuring an exceptionally large battery capacity, catering to consumer preferences for longer battery ranges in such vehicles. On October 16, Leapmotor debuted its flagship SUV D19, with its EREV variants utilizing an 80.3-kWh battery pack.

Xpeng chairman and CEO then explained why the company is launching EREVs, noting that Xpeng is a globally oriented AI automotive company facing varying infrastructure, customer demands, and regulatory policies across different regions. The company must adopt diverse technological approaches to meet global user demands, Mr. He said. The X9 EREV has undergone rigorous validation across complex environments in multiple countries, aiming to deliver more efficient and flexible mobility experiences worldwide, he said.

At this year’s Munich Motor Show, He Xiaopeng told that in the future, every XPeng model will offer both electric and “Super Electric” (super-extended range) options. He explained that infrastructure differences across markets, especially in countries with underdeveloped charging networks, make the “Super-Extended Range” solution ideal for balancing range and refueling convenience.
