Nio premium compact car brand Firefly has reached the milestone of 20,000 vehicle deliveries, two months after its 10,000th unit was delivered.  This means the Nio sub-brand has delivered 5,445 vehicles so far this month, poised to set a new record for September deliveries. Nio officially launched the pure electric Firefly brand at Nio Day 2024 on December 21, 2024 , positioning it to compete with Mini and Smart. The brand's namesake first model went on sale on April 19. Firefly offers two trims, with starting prices including the battery pack at 119,800 yuan ($16,800) and 125,800 yuan ($17,600). Chinese consumers can also purchase the hatchback through a BaaS (Battery as a Service) plan starting at 79,800 yuan ($11,200), with a monthly battery rental fee of 399 yuan ($42). Dreame Technology, a well-known Chinese home appliances maker, including vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, and robotic mops, shared official images of its second model. It is a full-size SUV with a design language r esembling the Rolls-Royce Cullinan and the Zeekr 9X.  It has a large rectangular chrome-plated grille and LED headlights. Other features of the Dreame SUV include sizeable rims, flush door handles, and coach rear doors. What is more, t his car has no B-pillars . It will enter the market in 2027 with a 3.2-meter wheelbase, coach doors, and an EV powertrain. Xiaomi is expected to unveil new high-performance version of the YU7 SUV during founder Lei Jun’s annual speech on September 25. Industry sources suggest the model may be named the YU7 GT .  Recent spy photographs have shown a heavily camouflaged prototype of the YU7 testing at Germany’s Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit . The test car featured a red-and-grey wrap, similar to that used by the SU7 Ultra during earlier trials. Observers noted wider front fenders, a more muscular rear section, and an overall wider stance compared with the standard YU7.  Reports indicate that the YU7 GT could adopt a tri-motor system similar to the powertrain of the previously launched SU7 Ultra. Italdesign has announced it is working on a project dedicated to the iconic Honda NSX . In a teaser posted on social media, the company showed the Honda and NSX logos alongside its own badge, accompanied by the word Tribute.  The visual language suggests a nod to the first generation of the model that made its debut in the 1990s. Italdesign brings deep experience in both production cars and fresh interpretations of familiar nameplates. Tesla is redesigning its door-handle system to make it easier for passengers to exit vehicles in emergencies, Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen said in an interview with Bloomberg on Sept. 17.  Holzhausen revealed the company is studying ways to integrate its separate electronic and manual unlocking mechanisms into a single button to reduce the risk of misuse. He said the approach “makes a lot of sense” and would improve intuitiveness in critical situations.  The move coincides with Chinese regulators’ plans to restrict fully hidden electronic handles across the auto industry. Draft rules would ban such designs in favor of semi-hidden or traditional handles that must include mechanical redundancy, with implementation scheduled for July 2027,  Holzhausen said.   Tesla is reviewing potential regulatory adjustments in China and is prepared to comply.
